Singapore deep-tech startup Bioactivx raises US$3 million Pre-Series A, co-led by ContInvest and Cocoon Capital, to advance Bioactiv® Matrix towards market.

Singapore deep-tech startup Bioactivx has raised US$3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round co-led by Mr Martin Krupp, Managing Director of Swissbased family office ContInvest, and Cocoon Capital, with participation from new and existing investors. The funding will accelerate the development and commercialisation of Bioactiv® Matrix, the company’s next-generation wound-care technology. The latest round brings Bioactivx’s total funding raised to US$4.9 million to date.
Bioactivx is an A*STAR and SingHealth spin-off developing fully synthetic regenerative biomaterials designed to improve wound-healing outcomes while overcoming some of the key limitations of conventional burn and wound-care treatments.
The new funding will be used to expand manufacturing capabilities in Singapore, strengthen the company’s commercial and regulatory teams, support post-market clinical trials for Bioactiv® Matrix, and advance its broader pipeline of wound-care technologies.
Many conventional wound-care treatments rely on animal-derived collagen or skin grafts and may require cold-chain storage, sterile operating environments and resource-intensive clinical care. Bioactiv® Matrix takes a different approach, using a fully synthetic, bioinspired material platform designed to accelerate tissue regeneration and reduce inflammation without relying on animal-derived materials.
Bioactiv® Matrix does not require cold-chain storage and is designed for application outside sterile operating theatre environments. These characteristics could potentially extend access to advanced wound care beyond tertiary hospitals to military settings, emergency response operations, remote healthcare facilities and resource-constrained environments.
“Many current burn injury treatment solutions were designed primarily for tertiary hospital environments,” said Dr Peili Teo, Co-founder of Bioactivx and Principal Scientist at the A*STAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (A*STAR IMRE). “We wanted to create a new generation of skin substitutes that is not only clinically effective, but also practical, scalable
and accessible. By removing dependencies on animal-derived materials, cold-chain logistics and sterile-only applications, we can potentially bring advanced wound care to significantly more patients globally.”
Bioactiv® Matrix has demonstrated encouraging outcomes in preclinical and first-in-human studies conducted in Singapore, including faster wound closure, lower inflammation and reduced scarring risk compared with current standards of care. The company has submitted its full data package to Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for regulatory approval and is preparing for commercialisation and wider market adoption.
“The Bioactivx team have made tremendous progress since we first invested during its seed round, moving Bioactiv® Matrix from promising science through clinical validation and regulatory submission, and now towards commercialisation,” said Michael Blakey, Managing Partner of Cocoon Capital. “They have built a product with the potential to meaningfully change how wounds are treated, and we are proud to continue backing the team as they work to bring Bioactiv® Matrix to patients around the world.”
Associate Professor Goh Su-Yen, Group Director of Innovation & Transformation, SingHealth, said: “Innovation thrives when organisations come together around a shared purpose. At SingHealth, we are building an environment where ideas can be tested, refined and scaled into real-world solutions. By bringing together clinicians, researchers and industry partners, we hope to co-create breakthroughs that will transform healthcare delivery and experience for our patients in Singapore and around the world.”
Beyond burns and acute wounds, Bioactivx is developing technologies targeting chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers and inflammatory skin conditions, building on the same synthetic regenerative biomaterial platform.
“We are pleased to see Bioactivx, an A*STAR spin-off, reach this important milestone. Its progress reflects the strong potential of Singapore-based research to be translated into innovations that improve lives and create economic value,” said Ms Irene Cheong, Assistant Chief Executive (Innovation & Enterprise), A*STAR.
Bioactivx expects Bioactiv® Matrix to progress through its regulatory and commercialisation milestones over the coming months, with Singapore targeted as one of its first launch markets by the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by expansion into regional markets in 2027.
