Leg Burn

Partial Thickness Burn

The Challenge & Bioactiv® Matrix Application

A boiler explosion caused partial-thickness steam burns across several areas of the patient’s body, including the lower leg. Burns in this area can be difficult to manage because movement and the contours of the limb may affect dressing placement and wound protection.

Following wound preparation, Bioactiv® Matrixwas applied to the leg and covered with a secondary dressing. Other burn areas were treated using the clinical standard of care, providing a contemporaneous reference for the patient’s recovery.

The Results

Clinical Outcomes

Early re-epithelialisation was observed in the Bioactiv® Matrix-treated area by Day 8, followed by progressive wound closure and reduced visible inflammation.

At subsequent follow-up, the treated area showed favourable skin restoration with hair regrowth. No skin grafting was required for the Bioactiv® Matrix-treated wound.

Operational Efficiencies

Bioactiv® Matrix conformed to the wound andwas applied without sutures, staples or adhesive fixation. Its straightforward application supported efficient wound coverage and simplified ongoing care.

Outcomes shown are from an individual clinical case and may not be representative of every patient.
